Manuel F. Ayau Cord\u00f3n, founder and first president of Universidad Francisco Marroqu\u00edn, shares with us in this account the vision that inspired the UFM founders to create an institution different from those that already existed. Driven by a desire to understand and eliminate poverty in Guatemala, they embarked on a deep exploration of its causes and sought the path to prosperity. Inspired by the Austrian School of Economics and supported by influential figures and organizations, both national and international, they decided to establish the university. Their mission was to teach and disseminate the ethical, legal, and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons, with the goal of shaping leaders who would apply these principles to create a more prosperous future. \nI had the privilege of being part of a group of his students. His clarity of mind, conviction in his ideas, courage to face a hostile world, and his leadership continue to inspire us to this day, urging us to keep building his dream of a freer world.
\nOne of the main causes of poverty in many countries is the limited understanding of how free exchange works. With this in mind, Manuel Ayau dedicated himself to creating this 'success story,' as Milton Friedman called it, which changed the way people debated important issues in our country.
\nWe can never thank him enough. As Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Bastiat said, aside from what is immediately visible, there are many unseen things that have happened thanks to the profound influence UFM has had throughout the region.
\nI invite all lovers of liberty to read the memoirs of this great man and to contribute to his
\nmagnificent work: Universidad Francisco Marroqu\u00edn, which has changed the lives of so many.
